LEGEND
LANDMARKS
This bridge shares the same stylistic characteristics as the bridge in Puente la Reina, its base, therefore, indicating that it may be of Romanesque origin. It would seem that the current pointed arches replaced original semi-circular arches at some point in time. It is the second oldest bridge over the River Arga after the Bridge of San Pedro. It has been greatly altered over the centuries. The most recent work took place in 1963 and consisted of restoring it to its original appearance. Located in the district of the same name, it is the main entrance to the city for pilgrims on the Road to Santiago. It is the most popular and most beautiful of the city’s bridges. It was declared a monument of historical-artistic interest in 1939.
